The history of Annechiena Willemiena

Annechiena was sold in 1919 to the sun of Hendrik Bul, Willem Bul, sailor of Wildervank,
for 7000 guilders.
Description: covered iron tjalk-ship 134 tons.
Brand: 2245 winsch 1893

In 1928 the brand changes to: 406 B winsch

In 1952 the mast-deck is removed and the cargo-hold opening enlarged.
An assistance-mast with sail is placed on the front-deck. The owner chose not to have an engine built in, but to have a tug-boat push the ship.

On this drawing you see the situation before and after 1952. It shows clearly how the cargo-hold opening is enlarged. This was usually done to make it more easy to get the cargo in and out of the ship. Furthermore sailing was often time-consuming and the sailors were forced to motorise. Therefor it was no longer neccesary to have a mast-deck. They did put a (loading-)mast on the front-deck which could hold an assistance sail. With good wind from the right direction, a lot of fuel could be saved.
